Before the ‘Net, newspapers and magazines used to fill space with short ‘quirky’ stories under standard headings like ‘News of the Weird’ (or some variation of). But before that, if you were a fan of these bizarre, ‘news-byte’ stories, your only option was to be vigilant and keep your eyes peeled. It was time and labor intensive. You had to really want it.
But if you had the patience, finding the occasional ‘holy shit!’-inducing-gem-of-absurdity made the mostly tedious hobby well worth it. So if you consider yourself a fan of wildly incorrect photo captions, hilariously mangled “corrections” or tragedies involving skydiving Christmas elves, you’ve come to the right place.
As always, if you see a worthy example – or have a favorite nugget from your collection – send it to us! If we like it, we’ll add it to the gallery and give you a credit as the source. And maybe some ice cream or something.
